SIMON BERGMANN

Simon Bergmann studied law at the Free University of Berlin. After passing his second state law examination, he initially worked in the legal department of Deutsche Welle and then as managing director of a well-known German sports club.

Since 1994, Simon Bergmann has been working as a lawyer in the fields of intellectual property law (in particular copyright, trademark, and competition law), media law (in particular film and media labor law), and sports law, until 2004 as a partner at the Hertin law firm. In 2005, he founded the law firm Schertz Bergmann together with Christian Schertz. With the founding of the new firm, he further specialized in press and freedom of expression law.

One of Simon Bergmann's main areas of practice is advising clients in the run-up to imminent reporting in traditional media and/or on the internet. This includes providing support in the area of necessary crisis communication. Thanks to his many years of forensic practice, Simon Bergmann has a high level of expertise in the area of litigation and litigation tactics.

He was able to win numerous precedent-setting judgments up to the highest courts and—where this was in the client's interest—communicate them through accompanying litigation PR. The focus was most recently on highly publicized and successfully conducted lawsuits against inadmissible reports based on suspicion.

From 2001 to 2016, Simon Bergmann was a lecturer in media law at the University of Film and Television in Potsdam-Babelsberg. He is a member of the International Sport Lawyers Association (ISLA) and the German Association for Sports Law (DVSR).
