The firm

Schertz Bergmann was founded in January 2005 by Prof. Dr. Christian Schertz and Simon Bergmann. Both had been partners at the law firm Hertin, Berlin. Schertz Bergmann concentrates its practice on the areas of press law, copyright law, and media law as well as on the protection of industrial property.

Among others, the firm gives counsel to high profile personalities such as international artists, entrepreneurs, athletes, and politicians in all legal matters. Moreover, the firm regularly represents individuals who have become subject to unauthorized press coverage. In addition, the firm permanently gives advice to several daily newspapers, magazines, periodicals, book publishers, agencies, and major German film and tv producers.

The firm offers legal services for all aspects of entertainment law. That particularly includes the negotiating and drafting of extensive artist and advertising contracts. The firm also offers expertise in unfair competition and trademark law, sports law and labour law, specifically labour law regarding the media.

Schertz Bergmann is recommended in the international reference book "The Legal 500 Series" in the areas of media, press, and publishing. There Prof. Dr. Schertz is listed among the "leading individuals".

Schertz Bergmann is listed here as a "firm appreciated for media". See also "press and publishers" and "sports law". The firm is also listed in the ranking "media: contract- and copyright law". Prof. Dr. Schertz is also among the "leading names" in representing injured parties here.

Within Nomos Publishing's selection of German commercial attorneys "Law Firms in Germany" ("Kanzleien in Deutschland") Schertz Bergmann is listed as a "top address for the entire area of the so-called law of the media" and the firm's success in representing both celebrities and publishers is emphasized.
